Once you have finished buying property in Stockport and completed the task of how to sell a house, the whirlwind begins in moving from one property to the other. It is no secret that moving home is one of the most stressful exercises in your lifetime, and some things are bound to be forgotten in the process leading up to the day.
As experienced estate agents Stockport, we understand that it is easy to get wrapped up in the buying and selling process and forget what you need. Here at Joules Estate Agents, we provide buying property advice and estate agency services and we also have the knowledge of the tools you will need to make those last few days of packing much smoother.
Here is the recommended home move toolkit to assemble before your moving day.
Box-it, Wrap-it and Pack-it
To safely transport your belongings between destinations, you will need an array of sturdy moving boxes. Instead of getting all in one size, consider multiple sizes. Use the smaller boxes to transport heavier items such as books, medium boxes for those miscellaneous items and large boxes for items such as clothing and bedding.
Remember that the heavier items should be packed in smaller amounts and the lighter in larger, making them easier to move. Protect your fragile items with bubble wrap and packing paper (as well as fragile labelling) so that they are cushioned during transit, ensuring these items show up at your new home in one piece. Quality packing tape is also essential for your boxes – but a tape gun can make things run quicker.
Stick-it, Cover-It and Fix-It
Make sure you have a roll of sticky labels for your boxes so you know which box is destined for which room in your new home. That will allow you to settle in much quicker in your new home without rummaging through boxes to find your essentials.
To protect items like furniture from any deep scratches or dust in the back of the moving van, have a collection of cheap furniture covers, moving blankets or shrink/plastic- wrap to cover them with. Most important is to have a basic home move toolkit to hand, composed of screwdrivers, a hammer, wrenches and Allen keys so you can assemble and disassemble at both destinations as required.
Separate the Essentials
Here is the one that many home movers forget – keeping the essential stuff in its own little box for immediate use. That includes preparing a cleaning kit that clears your old property upon moving out and will clean anything required before moving into the new one. That can be cleaning sprays, a mini vacuum, disposable gloves, bin bags and microfibre cloths.
Create a box for your personal essentials that will be required as soon as you arrive. That could be your phone chargers, toiletries, change of clothes, snacks and that all-important kettle to get the first brew on.
We also advise creating a home inventory to be better organised in packing and unpacking, ensuring all items are present and accounted for.
