Quick tips to prepare your home for last-minute viewings

Ever wondered what would happen if you were faced with a last-minute house viewing? It can be too easy to wind up in a panic and answer the door without preparation. However, there are things you can do to ensure your home is presentable. Here are some tips to prepare your home for last-minute viewings.

Hide the mess

Grab a wash basket and go through each room of the house. Pick up anything that doesn’t belong there, from paperwork and toys to dirty laundry. If your wash basket has a lid, you can store it neatly where it belongs. If not, we suggest hiding it somewhere such as your car to keep it out of sight.

Towels

If you have used towels in your bathroom, swap them for fresh ones. Fold and hang them neatly or roll them on display to make the room feel like a spa!

Fresh bedding

Refresh the bed with clean bedding. If you have any throws or cushions you can use to display things nicely, this will also help. If you feel your pillows aren’t as plump and presentable as you’d like them to be, grab some spares and place them underneath if you can.

Fresh Air

Nothing is less welcoming than a stuffy house. Open the windows for a short while and let the air flow through. It may also help to gently spray the property with a cotton fresh scent. However, don’t go overboard, as this will smell rather artificial and could be off-putting for the viewer.

If it’s cold

Make sure the heating is on and light any fires you have in the house. If you have an empty fire grate, fill them with big candles and light them. This will send a warm glow around the room and create a sense of cosiness.

If it’s dark

If the weather is grey and light isn’t making its way around the property, layer your lighting to make the place appear welcoming. However, don’t go overboard with the lighting as this can feel artificial and unwelcoming. A lovely warm glow is enough to create the homeliness you want to present.

Greenery and flowers

Throw in some greenery where you can. If you have time, buy some flowers to place around the home. If not, you may be able to create a lovely display with some off-cuts of your garden foliage. Plants are known to lift people’s spirits, and you definitely want to put a smile on the viewers face when they see your home.

You

Finally, you need to make yourself presentable. You don’t need to go overboard, but make sure you are wearing nice, casual clothing that is clean and fresh. Wear shoes, not slippers, put a comb through your hair and be ready for company. You may not come with the house, but your image can say a lot about how the house is currently kept.
